Terms and Conditions

DuRoss Group and Beyond the Record

Last updated: October 20, 2026

These Terms apply to your use of durossgroup.com (the “Site”), run by The DuRoss Group (“DuRoss Group”), a California company, and its education platform, Beyond the Record. “We,” “us,” and “our” mean DuRoss Group, including Beyond the Record. By using the Site, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Site.

The short version: Use the Site and its resources for your own work. Don’t copy and resell our materials. Nothing on the Site is legal, tax, or financial advice. Consulting work only begins under a signed client agreement. Beyond the Record is not a recruiter or placement service.

1. Who Can Use the Site

You must be 18 or older to register, subscribe, attend events, buy anything, or create an account. If you use the Site on behalf of a company, you confirm you have authority to agree to these Terms for that company.

2. Accounts

Some features, such as the client portal, member areas, and downloads, may require an account or registration. Keep your information accurate and your login private. You are responsible for activity under your account. Tell us right away if you think someone else has accessed it. We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or were opened with false information.

3. Consulting Services

Service descriptions and case studies on the Site are for general information. Submitting a form, sending a message, or booking a discovery call does not create a client relationship or contract. Consulting work begins only after we both sign a written client agreement, which sets the scope, fees, confidentiality, and other terms. If that agreement conflicts with these Terms, the client agreement controls for the services it covers. We may decline any engagement.

4. Beyond the Record

Beyond the Record is the education platform of DuRoss Group. It offers articles, newsletters, webinars, events, and resources for court reporters, students, and legal professionals. Beyond the Record resources and events are free.

Beyond the Record content may mention or promote DuRoss Group services. Beyond the Record does not recruit, place, or match reporters with clients, operate as a reporting agency, or sell leads.

5. Purchases and Memberships

DuRoss Group may offer paid resources, events, or memberships. These are separate from Beyond the Record. If you make a purchase:

  • Pricing. Prices are shown at checkout and may change. Changes don’t affect purchases already made.
  • Payment. Payments are handled by a third-party payment processor. We don’t store your card number.
  • Memberships. Recurring memberships renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime, and access continues through the end of the paid period.
  • Refunds. Because digital downloads are delivered immediately, they are non-refundable unless stated otherwise at checkout. If you can’t attend a paid event, contact us before the event and we will offer a credit or refund where we reasonably can.

Any terms shown at checkout for a specific purchase also apply.

6. Using Our Content

Everything on the Site, including articles, templates, guides, glossaries, recordings, graphics, logos, and designs, belongs to DuRoss Group or is used with permission.

You may: view, download, print, and adapt our resources for your own work or to train your own team.

You may not: resell, republish, share publicly, repackage, or distribute our content, or use our logos, without written permission. Sharing a link to the Site is always fine.

7. What You Share With Us

If you send us comments, questions, survey answers, or feedback, or share them during an event, you still own them. You give us permission to use them to run and promote the Site and our services. We will not publish your name, photo, or words with your name attached without your permission.

Do not submit confidential transcript or deposition content, information about witnesses or parties, or anything covered by a protective order or confidentiality duty.

Webinars and events may be recorded and shared. By attending, you agree that your display name, questions, and chat messages may appear in the recording.

8. Acceptable Use

Don’t:

  • Use the Site for anything illegal
  • Scrape or copy content in bulk, including to build a competing resource
  • Try to hack, overload, or get into areas you aren’t authorized to access
  • Use our forms or events to send spam or advertising
  • Harass, disrupt, or be abusive toward anyone at our events or in our community

We may remove content or participants, or block access, if these rules are broken.

9. Third-Party Tools and Links

The Site uses outside tools for things like scheduling, email, webinars, payments, and analytics. The Privacy Policy explains how they handle your information. The Site may also link to other websites. We don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content or practices.

10. Not Professional Advice

Content on the Site, including articles, templates, webinars, and newsletters, is general education and information. It is not legal, tax, accounting, or financial advice. Laws and rules vary by state and change over time. Talk to a qualified professional before making major business or career decisions. Using the Site or our free materials does not make you a client.

11. Disclaimer

THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, WE MAKE NO WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. YOU USE THE SITE AND ITS RESOURCES AT YOUR OWN RISK.

12. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW, DUROSS GROUP AND ITS OWNERS, EMPLOYEES, AND CONTRACTORS ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR BUSINESS, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SITE, ITS RESOURCES, OR ITS EVENTS. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATED TO THE SITE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF WHAT YOU PAID US THROUGH THE SITE IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS OR $100.

This does not limit liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud or willful misconduct. Paid consulting work is governed by the liability terms in your client agreement.

13. Indemnification

You agree to cover DuRoss Group and its owners, employees, and contractors for any third-party claims, losses, and reasonable legal fees caused by your misuse of the Site, your violation of these Terms, or content you submit, except where the claim results from our own negligence or misconduct.

14. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by California law. If a dispute comes up, we both agree to try to resolve it informally for 30 days after written notice by email. If that doesn’t work, any lawsuit must be filed in the state or federal courts in San Diego County, California. Either of us may still use small claims court.

15. General

  • Copyright concerns. If you believe something on the Site infringes your copyright, email us with the details and we will review it promptly.
  • Ending access. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms. Sections 6, 7, and 10 through 14 still apply afterward.
  • Changes. We may update these Terms. We will post the new version here with a new “Last updated” date. Continuing to use the Site means you accept the updated Terms.
  • Events outside our control. We aren’t responsible for delays or outages caused by things beyond our reasonable control, such as internet or hosting failures.
  • Transfer. We may transfer these Terms if DuRoss Group is sold or reorganized.
  • Severability. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
  • Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the full agreement about your use of the Site.
